Dear Gauteng Community

We have recovered from the freezing cold of La Verna and have brought our reflections on the Recommendations that we discerned at the Assembly back to our home communities. Now we have to take them and make them happen.

Becoming an apostolic body was found to be the most important recommendation and we have already received the first of the post-Assembly Communiqués asking us to pray and reflect on this theme. Over the next couple of months we will develop our prayer in this respect, - more of this in the next Communiqué.

As a region we have some more things to do

At present we have no functioning Exco and this must be addressed. I ask that you prayerfully reflect on your role in the region and reflect on who at this moment in time will help to serve Gauteng most effectively as a member of the regional Exco.

We have some fundraising to do. The National Exco has already suggested that one national fundraising event take place at the beginning of October: The Ecclesiastical Assistant’s Garden Party. For this we need some immediate and quick planning. We particularly need an organiser for this event, but help from the rest of the Community as well, so I ask for organisers and helpers to please mail me [contact details deleted - contact Admin] to let me know where you can help here. We have no theme or action as yet

Our main aim for fundraising now is to generate funds to send delegates to the Leadership Course in Nairobi in November. Sabie Makgothi and Desmond Plaatjies have been identified as the appropriate people to send and Jane Hulley will be there as well as she is part of the Training Team, Jane’s expenses will be paid for by the World Community in consequence.

At the end of last year we spoke about our desires in our region and retreats were something that were felt as important. In October, 17^th-26^th , we will have an 8 day retreat and in November 13-15 we will have a weekend retreat. I encourage as many as possible to do one of the retreats and to let me know which retreat you wish to attend. The 8 day retreat will cost R2500.00 and the weekend will cost approximately R600.
