March 2010
Dear Gauteng Community,
On Sunday 7 March Fr Anthony Egan SJ joined Mandy Jones, Bruce Verity, Anne Dormehl, Gisela Knox and with apologies from Sabie Makgothi in a welcoming and planning meeting for the Gauteng community.
Fr Anthony is keen to be part of and see greater spiritual formation and community spirit in the Region and we as a fledgling team were most excited to begin work with our new regional Ecclesiastical Assistant.
Fr Anthony wants to meet the whole community as soon as possible and so for the World CLC Day we will have a retreat type day on Saturday 27th March. Mass will be part of the day. We will have a bring and share lunch.
His motto for this day is Be there or be square!
The Day will start at 10h00 and will end with Mass and be over by 16h00. We will be using Projects 144 and possibly a Penitential Rite. For these days we will also take a collection as part of the CLC way: Formation for Mission. This collection will be donated to a worthy cause decided on by the Community. This month we will donate to the Curriculum Development Trust (CDP). This Trust is located in Bertrams and focuses on early childhood development programmes, women’s empowerment, community building for women and youth and educator training. They aim to empower people with the skills to create a business to support themselves using recycled materials, ceramics sculpture, fabric design and silkscreen printing.
This year we decided that as we do not have access to the wonderful Jesuit House in Auckland Park as building is going on at present and we have not managed to find another suitable venue, we will meet instead in our own homes. We will change the format of our meetings to Formation Prayer days and will hold them every two months starting with the World CLC Day celebration on 27th March. We want to use our homes in the different areas of the region and ask, if you feel that you can host a Formation day, to please let me know. The days will be on a Saturday or Sunday and provisionally on the following days from 10h00-16h00:
May 14/15
July 17 or 18
September 18 or 19
November 20 or 21
Please note the latest Communiqué for the Leadership course that Sabie and Jane will be doing in June so that we may benefit from their skills and knowledge gained at the Nairobi Leadership Course in November last year.
We will have the annual 8-day retreat during the school holidays in June this year. Please let me know if you want to attend the retreat. The cost will be in the region of R2000.00 but there are subsidies available. Fr Anthony will direct.
We also aim to have a couple of weekend retreats and will publish the dates for these in due course.
In the meantime please diarise the 27th March and be sure to be there.
This will take place at Mandy’s house in Kensington:
36 Onyx street, Kensington. Just above Rhodes Park.
